Yesterday, I posed a question: was my new regime sustainable? The answer was provided fairly swiftly, and it wasn’t a resounding yes. Put simply, by 4 o’clock I was pleasantly enjoying a dream.
But I haven’t failed altogether! It’s merely a case of refining the timetable to find something that works; i.e. a little less rowing, a little more sleep. So tonight I have a new plan: I’m going to sleep when I hit 48°W. The faster I row, the more sleep I get. Seems like a win/win to me!
So far, I’ve managed to keep ahead of the worst of the weather. I’m still being blown south - I’m now in-line with Antigua - but I’m more relaxed about it than I was a few weeks ago. Everything seems a little easier when the “distance to destination” is in three digits. As for the next few days, we’ll just have to wait and see.
I’ve started mixing and matching with some of my meals. Lunch today was couscous with a Dolmio bolognese sauce. It was very nice, but a comment on the packet got me thinking. Apparently, bolognese sauce “may contain traces of peanut”.
I can just imagine, at the factory, a new person starting out, merrily skipping around adding ingredients to the various vats of food. Then along comes the supervisor:
- “What are you doing?”
- “I’m putting the peanuts in the Snickers”
- “That’s not the Snickers one, that’s the bolognese one”
- “Oh. So that one over there isn’t the bolognese one?”
- “No. That’d be the Snickers one”
- “Right. What’s the policy on beefy Snickers these days? And do dogs like nougat?”
Well, the thought kept me entertained for a good five minutes, and that meant a pain-free five minutes! I’d like to point out, I’m sure the whole place is in fact run marvellously, and I’ve been well fed by lots of their products during the crossing.
Now, if you’d like to send the free stuff out, I’d really appreciate it.
Maybe some Twixes?
