There is a bigger purpose to this crossing. I'm aiming to raise more than £20,000 for FARM-Africa in the process. To help me reach my target, please donate whatever you can.
Michael Palin, Patron of FARM-Africa, says....
"Sam Williams' heroic voyage is one which I can only enviously admire and heartily applaud. He's doing something that demands enormous effort, concentration and courage. The fact that he's doing all this for such a good cause is something of which everyone involved with Farm-Africa can be immensely proud". February 2008

FARM-Africa is an international organisation that works in partnership with herders and farmers to help them develop sustainable farming practices and to make the most of the natural resources available to them.
The money I raise will go towards the Kenya Dairy Goat and Capacity Building Project in Kitui and Mwingi. Two thirds of Kenya is arid and over half of the population live in abject poverty. FARM-Africa works with the poorest households in each community, particularly focusing on female- and orphan-headed families.
The charity was started in 1985 by Sir Michael Wood and David Campbell, initially promoting the camel (the "two humps are better than none" campaign - I made that up) and then the goat ("sheep are over-rated" - and that). Over the years they have developed into having local offices in many African nations, and keep on doing work that is pretty good. They've even got Michael Palin as a patron - they must be great!
To find out more information about them, and the work they do, please have a look at this information sheet and visit their website, which says everything far better, and more accurately, than I ever could. To be serious for a (very short) second, they're really worth supporting.
